Omicron Deuteron

Simpson College

Historical facts:

  1. Omicron Chapter opened in 1880 and then closed in 1890. It reopened exactly 100 years later in 1990 as Omicron Deuteron.

  2. Kate Shelly, Simpson, saved a trainload of passengers and was a national hero when she was initiated.

  3. When the chapter was at a dangerously low number of members and didn't have a successful Recruitment, the Panhellenic community at Simpson came together to help the chapter pledge and initiate its "lifesavers."

Fun facts:

  1. Even though Omicron Deuteron is a small chapter (around 50 members), two alumnae were selected as Leadership Consultants during the 2019–20 school year.

  2. Simpson’s campus is home to one of the most longstanding fraternal systems. Omicron Chapter was installed in 1880. Pi Beta Phi’s chapter was installed in 1874 and is its second oldest continuously operating chapter. The second chapter of Delta Delta Delta’s chapter was installed at Simpson in 1889 and is Tri Delta's oldest continuously operating chapter.

  3. Omicron Chapter's original charter from 1880 was signed by Kappa's first Grand President, Tade Hartsuff Kuhns, Butler. Oddly, it’s undated except for a pencil note at the bottom.
