Gamma Tau

North Dakota State University

1929–85

Historical facts:

  1. Delta Phi Beta, a local sorority, began in winter 1908. On May 3, 1929, it became Gamma Tau Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

  2. Fraternity President Georgia Hayden Lloyd-Jones, Wisconsin, and Fraternity Vice President Alice Tillotson Barney, Minnesota, were the installing officers, and members of Chi Chapter, Minnesota, came to Fargo, North Dakota, for the installation.

  3. The chapter’s history really begins with the name of Pearl Dinan, an honorary member of Delta Phi Beta and the dean of women at the then-North Dakota Agricultural College. Because of Pearl, chapter archives were kept in excellent order and her continued interest in Kappa was a source of inspiration to collegians and alumnae.

Fun facts:

  1. Gamma Tau Chapter was first housed in one big room in the basement of the YWCA-YMCA building.
