Delta Upsilon

University of Georgia

1948

Historical facts:

  1. Delta Upsilon Chapter was the first chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma in Georgia. Its organization had been delayed by a campus not ready for expansion and by World War II.

  2. Delta Upsilon's first chapter house was a historic home on Prince Avenue. Three Kappa husbands had persuaded the owner to sell his old mansion.

  3. The chapter was installed on an icy Valentine's Day in 1948 with 17 charter members and a new member class of nine.

Fun facts:

  1. The chapter house was the first on campus to be professionally decorated.

  2. The house still has bells connected to each room. In the past, they were used to tell girls that their dates had arrived at the door. Now, they are used to tell in-house girls that dinner is ready.

  3. In 2015, the chapter's philanthropy changed to Books for Keeps, an incredible organization that is more aligned with Kappa’s national philanthropy. That year, the chapter raised over $34,000.
